Job Description

As part of the development of our colored stone cutting and processing workshop, we are looking for a Senior Lapidary specializing in ruby work.

The candidate will be responsible for the cutting, optimization, and quality control of high-value rubies intended for jewelry and fine jewelry. The position requires advanced technical expertise, an excellent understanding of the gemological characteristics of corundum, and a high level of aesthetic standards.

Main missions

  • Perform the pre-shaping, cutting and polishing of natural and treated rubies.
  • Optimize material yield while maximizing the beauty and commercial value of the stones.
  • Identify and take into account:
    • inclusions,
    • crystallographic axes,
    • color zoning,
    • internal tensions,
    • risk of breakage.
  • Define the appropriate sizing guidelines for each raw material.
  • Checking the quality of the finished stones:
    • symmetry,
    • proportions,
    • polite,
    • shine,
    • color uniformity.
  • Working with standard and complex sizes:
    • oval,
    • cushion,
    • pear,
    • emerald,
    • fancy sizes.
  • Collaborating with the gemology, purchasing and jewelry teams.
  • Ensure the maintenance and adjustment of pruning equipment.
  • Participate in the transmission of know-how and the training of junior lapidaries.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and workshop safety procedures.

Desired profile

Experience

  • Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in lapidary work.
  • Proven expertise in cutting high-end rubies.
  • Experience in a jewelry or high jewelry environment is highly valued.

Technical skills

  • Advanced mastery of corundum cutting and polishing techniques.
  • Excellent gemological knowledge of rubies:
    • origins,
    • heat treatments,
    • optical characteristics.
  • Ability to work with high-value stones with a very high level of precision.
  • Mastery of lapidary tools and machines.
  • Keen sense of detail and aesthetics.
